In a move that will enable passengers to lodge police complaints irrespective of their jurisdiction, the Government Railway Police (GRP) have decided to accept complaints on trains in Southern Railway.
The initiative follows instances of passengers being told to either detrain or go to the jurisdiction police station to lodge complaints. Additional Director- General of Police (Railways) R. Sekar said GRP personnel travelling in all express trains across the zone were instructed to accept complaints from passengers and issue receipts.
“The passengers need not break their journey or go to the jurisdiction police station anymore. We will take steps to ensure that First Information Report (FIR) is registered and a copy sent to the complainant. In case passengers are unable to locate Railway Police on trains, they can send SMS or call ‘9962500500' for assistance,” he said.
Mr. Sekar said the GRP had launched a drive against harassment of passengers by transgenders. Based on complaints that transgenders were often forcing passengers to pay money, steps were taken to eradicate the problem.
