The 29 three-day national conference of the All India Postal Employees Union Group-C, starting on March 10, will discuss the main problems faced by the postal and the Central government employees in the wake of the Union government’s downsizing policy and the problems faced by the workers in general.
The All India Postal Employees Union Group-C is an off shoot of the National Federation Postal Employees (NFPE).
Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Mayor K. Chandrika, chairperson of the reception committee, said the meet would be held at the Nani Banerjee Nagar (RDR auditorium), and would be attended by 1,000 delegates and 2,800 visiting delegates. Of the delegates, 200 would be women and delegates from 22 states would participate in the deliberations.
The CITU national president, A. K. Padmanabhan, would inaugurate the all-India conference that would have an open session, a delegate session, cultural programmes, a women’s convention and address by senior officers of India Post.
The NFPE secretary general M. Krishnan said the meeting was being organised at a time when the Union government was going ahead with the policy of downsizing and abolishing posts in India post.
In December 2012, 17,000 posts were abolished. The decision to close down 9,797 post offices in the city limits was withdrawn after the strike by the employees, he added.
